  • * Sunday, March 17, 2024 beginning at 1 pm, the Brooklyn Saint Patrick's Parade. The St. Patrick's Day events begin at Bartel-Pritchard Square at 14th Street at the southwest corner of Prospect Park in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn. The parade kicks off at Prospect Park West and 15th St [assembly stretches to 9th St] and then marches to 7th Ave & Garfield Place, back to Prospect Park West & 15th Street where there's a celebration / after party from 2 - 5 pm at Holy Name of Jesus Church at 245 Prospect Park West.   • * Fort Greene _ Friday through Monday, May 24 to 27, 2024 - Dance Africa Festival at BAM - in the Peter Jay Sharp Building and Howard Gilman Opera House in the Brooklyn Academy of Music at 30 Lafayette Avenue at Ashland Place in Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn. It's a performance festival featuring African culture. Tickets start at $35 for adults and $22 for kids. For details see www.bam.org. This is NOT a street fair, but there is a bazaar day, but it is mostly musical, theatrical and cultural dance performances.

  • * Crown Heights _ All Weekend [see below**] / Monday, September 2, 2024 beginning at 10 am - 57th Annual West Indian American Day Parade and Carnival. There are events related to the parade going on all weekend [see below]. The parade begins at 11 am on Labor Day, Monday September 2nd starting near the Children's Zoo in Prospect Park, which is just south of the Grand Army Plaza near the Brooklyn Museum. The parade then marches south through Prospect Park along Flatbush Avenue. At the Flatbush they exit from the Park, the parade turns onto Empire Blvd and heads east to Nostrand, and then turns south ending at Midwood. Almost every site I saw seemed to get this wrong except the NYPD and the Organizers' site. The event runs from 10 am - 6 pm and you'll also find food stalls and shopping along along Eastern Parkway in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn.

  • Sunday, November 5, 2023 from 8 am - 5 pm - The NYC Marathon runners begin congregating at Fort Wadsworth at the foot of the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge on Staten Island beginning at 7 am. The Professional Wheelchairs take off at 8 am, the Handcyclists at 8.22 am, the Professional Women at 8.40 am, and the Professional Men at 9.05 am, with the last wave at 11.40 am. Staten Island is the starting poinit, while Brooklyn is the first leg, the Queens segment of the course is around the midpoint before heading into Manhattan, then north to the Bronx over the Willis Avenue Bridge, where they do a U turn by heading west over the Madison Avenue Bridge before turning south into Manhattan and Central Park. Use the link to the front page below to view a map of the Marathon course for 2022.
    • So you can do some math to figure out when to greet them in your borough. The fastest men complete the race in a bit more than two hours, while the average is 4 hours and 40 minutes. The midpoint is in Queens. The biggest wave of runners travel through Queens around 11 am, so you can figure out the rest. The weather is expected to be pleasant. Enjoy.

This is the first year of this event which will enable participants to self guide / visit up to a couple of dozen local bars and restaurants - mostly along 3rd Avenue between 12th and Union streets in the Gowanus neighborhood in Brooklyn BK.   • FORT GREENE _ Saturday thru Tuesday, July 1 - 4, 2023 from 10 am - 9 pm - The 52nd International African Arts Festival - At Commodore Barry Park at Flushing & Park Avenues & Navy Street [North Elliot Place] in the Fort Greene Neighborhood of Brooklyn. This fair includes food, shopping and there are also daily musical / dance performances. Admission with $10 donation. Street fairs in Fort Greene BK. https://iaafestival.org/
  • CONEY ISLAND _ Tuesday, July 4, 2023 from 11 am - 1 pm - Nathan's Hotdog Eating Contest - At the corner of Stillwell and Surf. Contestants show many hotdogs they can eat in ten minutes. In 2021 - For the men, Joey Chestnut ate 76 hotdogs in ten minutes, and for the women, Michelle Lesco ate just shy of 31 hot dogs in ten minutes.

The Annual Our Lady of Mount Carmel Feast / The Giglio Festival began in 1903. Havemeyer at 8th Street. A DAILY Italian festival with food, music, dance, entertainment and kiddie rides, as well as the cultural hoisting of the Giglio. Organized by Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.   • CONEY ISLAND _ RECURRING _ Friday, June 30, 2023 beginning at dusk [about 9.15 pm] - Coney Island Weekly Friday Night Fireworks along the Riegelmann Boardwalk at West 12th Street on Coney Island in Brooklyn. The Coney Island fireworks are always held off the beach, generally in the area of the Steeplechase tower in Steeplechase Park on Coney Island in Brooklyn. This event is held every Friday until Labor Day Weekend.

 

 

  • Sunday, July 30, 2023 from 12 noon - 6 pm . Flatbush Avenue BID Festival & Street Fair. Along Flatbush Avenue between Parkside and Cortelyou Road. A street fair with Caribbean influence including food, music, rides, dance and shopping. St Fairs in Prospect Lefferts Garden & Flatbush in Brooklyn. Organized by the Flatbush Avenue BID & Meteor Festivals.
