While generally Brooklyn Street Fairs begin in April, this year we're going a bit deeper in the Winter quarter [January through March 2024], to identify some of the year round markets, which while not exactly street fairs, contain some of the elements of the street fair experience including an eclectic offering of merchandise and food items.

• * Sunday, March 17, 2024 beginning at 1 pm, the Brooklyn Saint Patrick's Parade. The St. Patrick's Day events begin at Bartel-Pritchard Square at 14th Street at the southwest corner of Prospect Park in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn. The parade kicks off at Prospect Park West and 15th St [assembly stretches to 9th St] and then marches to 7th Ave & Garfield Place, back to Prospect Park West & 15th Street where there's a celebration / after party from 2 - 5 pm at Holy Name of Jesus Church at 245 Prospect Park West. • * Sunday, March 24, 2024 beginning at 1 pm - the Bay Ridge Brooklyn Saint Patrick's Parade kicks off on 3rd and Marine Avenues and marches north along 3rd Avenue to 67th Street, turning west and ending in Owl's Head Park in Bayridge. • * CONEY ISLAND _ Saturdays & Sundays [and a few select weekdays], March 23 - April 14, 2024 from 11 am to 8 pm - Luna Park is open in Coney Island. The amusement park has a large variety of rides, and is located along the boardwalk where there are a number of fast food stands and other vendors. Street fairs and fun in Coney Island Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Folk Festival began in 2008 / 2009 when some folks from the Jalopy Theater / School of Music in Red Hook decided there should be an event / venue to showcase local Brooklyn musicians' talent. • * Bay Ridge _ Sunday, May 19, 2023 beginning at 1.30 pm - Norweigan Day Parade - The parade steps off at 80th Street and 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge. The parade then turns right onto 75th Street [aka Bay Ridge Parkway], left onto 5th Avenue, to 67th Street and then along the Park - ending between 6th and 7th Avenues where the reviewing stand is. • * Fort Greene _ Friday through Monday, May 24 to 27, 2024 - Dance Africa Festival at BAM - in the Peter Jay Sharp Building and Howard Gilman Opera House in the Brooklyn Academy of Music at 30 Lafayette Avenue at Ashland Place in Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn. It's a performance festival featuring African culture. Tickets start at $35 for adults and $22 for kids. For details see www.bam.org. This is NOT a street fair, but there is a bazaar day, but it is mostly musical, theatrical and cultural dance performances.

• * Crown Heights _ All Weekend [see below**] / Monday, September 2, 2024 beginning at 10 am - 57th Annual West Indian American Day Parade and Carnival. There are events related to the parade going on all weekend [see below]. The parade begins at 11 am on Labor Day, Monday September 2nd starting near the Children's Zoo in Prospect Park, which is just south of the Grand Army Plaza near the Brooklyn Museum. The parade then marches south through Prospect Park along Flatbush Avenue. At the Flatbush they exit from the Park, the parade turns onto Empire Blvd and heads east to Nostrand, and then turns south ending at Midwood. Almost every site I saw seemed to get this wrong except the NYPD and the Organizers' site. The event runs from 10 am - 6 pm and you'll also find food stalls and shopping along along Eastern Parkway in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn.

The Professional Wheelchairs take off at 8 am, the Handcyclists at 8.22 am, the Professional Women at 8.40 am, and the Professional Men at 9.05 am, with the last wave at 11.40 am. Staten Island is the starting poinit, while Brooklyn is the first leg, the Queens segment of the course is around the midpoint before heading into Manhattan, then north to the Bronx over the Willis Avenue Bridge, where they do a U turn by heading west over the Madison Avenue Bridge before turning south into Manhattan and Central Park.   • So you can do some math to figure out when to greet them in your borough. The fastest men complete the race in a bit more than two hours, while the average is 4 hours and 40 minutes. The midpoint is in Queens. The biggest wave of runners travel through Queens around 11 am, so you can figure out the rest. The weather is expected to be pleasant. Enjoy.

There will be a Brooklyn street festival following the parade at Graham Avenue at Broadway from about 3 pm - 5 pm. https://brooklyndominicanparade.org.
